Vardzia operates daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, staying open until 7:00 PM in summer. Admission costs 15 GEL for foreign adults. You can pay an extra 2 GEL for a shuttle to skip the steep uphill walk to the entrance.

This labyrinth of interconnected caves originally served as living quarters, wine cellars, and escape routes. Walking through gives you a clear sense of medieval monastic life. Some passages are low and very dark. Watch your head and use your phone flashlight to navigate safely.

Builders added this above-ground structure after a massive earthquake in 1283 exposed the inner caves. It sits near the main entrance paths. Stop here to capture clear photos of the Mtkvari River valley before climbing higher.
